Eddie Oliver Named Executive Director of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks

Federation of Virginia Food Banks Hires Anti-hunger Leader as Executive Director

RICHMOND, VA – The Federation of Virginia Food Banks, the Commonwealth’s largest anti-hunger relief network, announced the hire of Eddie Oliver as its new Executive Director on Tuesday.

Mr. Oliver brings a wealth of experience in innovative anti-hunger programming, cross-sector coalition building, and state and federal advocacy. After starting his career in youth programs at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, he became the Director of the No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign in March 2015. Under the leadership of former First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe, Mr. Oliver led the statewide effort to increase participation in federal child nutrition programs, achieving an annual increase of 10 million school breakfasts and 2 million afterschool meals and snacks served to Virginia students. For the past year, Mr. Oliver served as Chief of Staff to Mrs. McAuliffe, working with a broad range of partners across the Commonwealth to improve food access, bolster support for military families, and expand national service opportunities.

“I couldn’t be more excited to build on the momentum we have achieved toward ending hunger in Virginia,” said Mr. Oliver. “Our seven member food banks have led the way in meeting the needs of food insecure families. Together, they possess tremendous potential to transform food access in the Commonwealth by building bridges to untapped sectors of the food system, forging new partnerships, and amplifying the voices of the hungry in the halls of government.”

“We believe that Mr. Oliver is the right hire at the right time for the Federation,” said Michael McKee, CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Chair of the Federation’s Board of Directors. “His relationships and depth of understanding will provide the strategic guidance, vision, and collaborative leadership needed to sustain our progress on the issue of food insecurity in Virginia and take the Federation to the next level of success.”
