Our signature efforts are designed to provide healthy and nutritional food and supplement existing federal and state food programs and subsidies. The Federation of Virginia Food Banks endeavors to work with Virginia-based businesses whenever possible, thereby boosting our local economy while helping our fellow Virginians facing food insecurity.
Farms to Food Banks
‘Farms to Food Banks’ initiative allows access to more fresh produce for food insecure Virginians while supporting the hard work and generous spirit of the Commonwealth’s growers.
Milk for Good
Milk is the most requested, yet least donated item at our Virginia food banks. We partner with local Virginia dairy farmers to provide fresh, locally processed, nutrient-rich milk for distribution at our food banks and partner agencies.

Child Nutrition
Millions of children in the United States are growing up without enough food to eat. This is an issue that has long-term health and societal repercussions if not addressed. Our summer and afterschool meal programs, school-based pantry programs, and weekend food backpack programs are all uniquely tailored to the needs of the community and deploy innovative service models to reach as many children as possible.
Health and Hunger
Research has affirmed the critical roles of nutrition and healthy food access in health outcomes. Low-income households and individuals living in food deserts are at greater risk for a variety of diet-related diseases, including diabetes and hypertension. This signature program seeks to build the capacity of our local agency partners by forging partnerships with healthcare providers.
