Our signature efforts are designed to provide healthy and nutritional food and supplement existing federal and state food programs and subsidies. The Federation of Virginia Food Banks endeavors to work with Virginia-based businesses whenever possible, thereby boosting our local economy while helping our fellow Virginians facing food insecurity.
Food access is a critical contributor to health. Unfortunately, many people suffer long-term health consequences because they were born into communities that lack access to affordable, nutritious food.
‘Farms to Food Banks’ initiative allows access to more fresh produce for food insecure Virginians while supporting the hard work and generous spirit of the Commonwealth’s growers.
Milk is the most requested, yet least donated item at our Virginia food banks. We partner with local Virginia dairy farmers to provide fresh, locally processed, nutrient-rich milk for distribution at our food banks and partner agencies.
Our summer and afterschool meal programs, school-based pantry programs, and weekend food backpack programs are all uniquely tailored to the needs of the community and deploy innovative service models to reach as many children as possible.
