Milk is one of the most requested yet least donated items to Virginia’s food banks. On average, the families coming to our food pantries receive less than 1 gallon of milk per year.
Since the start of the program in 2019, we have supported the distribution of more than 200,000 half gallons of fresh, locally processed milk.
How the Program Works:
- Funding provided through grants, corporate sponsors, and individual donations.
- The Federation purchases 2% half gallons directly from Maola – the Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative on behalf of our member food banks.
- Milk is distributed to local food pantries for families in need.
Your contributions will go directly toward the purchase of fresh, locally processed, nutrient-rich milk. On average, a $12 donation will provide 5 half-gallons (40 servings) of milk.
Milk for Good is a partnership between the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, the Virginia Dairymen’s Association, the Dairy Alliance, and the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative.
Additional funding has been provided by Colonial Farm Credit, Farm Credit of the Virginias, and MidAtlantic Farm Credit, and Northern Neck Insurance Company to help with critical infrastructure needs, including storage and transportation.
